June 27 & 28, 2008

      Visit historic Camden, Alabama for the 2nd Annual Wilcox Riverbank Festival on June 27th and 28th.  Come enjoy the sounds of Jazz and taste the foods of area restaurants on Friday evening at the Roland Cooper State Park, overlooking beautiful Lake Dannelly.  On Saturday, attend the Folk Life Festival at Black Belt Treasures in Camden.  While you are here, take a ride on the Gees Bend Ferry.  Saturday evening, enjoy the Fireworks Celebration at the East Bank Park in Miller's Ferry and the spectacular fireworks show at dark.  Come to Wilcox County for a fun filled and very affordable weekend of adventures!

   Itinerary  

Friday:  6-8:30pm
Jazz Concert at the Roland Cooper State Park
  
     
Enjoy the tastes of Wilcox County with food for sale by area restaurants as you enjoy the sounds of jazz overlooking beautiful Lake Dannelly.  Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the evening of food and music.  $3 cover charge per person.  This event is sponsored by the Wilcox Area Chamber of Commerce.  No alcoholic beverages allowed.  

 

Saturday:  10am-3:00pm
Folk Life Festival at Blackbelt Treasures in Camden
     
     
Celebrate the arts during the Black Belt Treasures Folk Life Festival. The festival will feature potters Sam Williams of Monroeville and Allen Ham of Selma, bird carver John Sheffey of Minter, vine basket maker Andrew McCall of Letohatchee, white oak basket maker Walter Brooks of Monroe County.

     Also featured will be Tyree McCloud of Boykin, artist Faye Dixon Bennett, the Martin-Hicks Bluegrass/Gospel Band, a Kids Art Corner, and a variety of food. Demonstrations will begin at 10:00 a.m. and continue throughout the day at the Black Belt Treasures Gallery.  All demonstrations by artists are free of charge to the public.  This is also a great time to visit the gallery of Black Belt Treasures.

Fireworks Celebration at East Bank Park, Miller's Ferry

      Round out the weekend at the Fireworks Celebration at East Bank Park, in Miller’s Ferry on the banks of Lake Dannelly, sponsored by the City of Camden. This great family event will include games for children, a live band, delicious food,  and a spectacular display of fireworks!  Admission is free!

  • Ride the Gee's Bend Ferry.  The ferry will be operating throughout the day for your convenience.  See www.geesbendferry.com for more.  
  • Visit our local gift shops.  There are many unique shopping opportunities in Camden.
  • Take a Walking Tour of Camden.  Pick up a brochure at Blackbelt Treasures and soak in the history of Camden on this fun walking tour.
