Dunn-Fairley-Bonner-Field Home

Reputedly the oldest structure in Camden, this home was built by Thomas Dunn, one of the earliest settlers of this area.  It is believed that he donated the land upon which  the present town of Camden , known as Barboursville until 1841, was built.  Mr. Dunn died in 1836 and is interred in the Camden Cemetery.   The home was originally a  two-story log I-house (c. 1825), with the two-story frame addition added in the 1835-1840 time period.  It was modified to its current form with the addition of the full-façade portico and extended eaves in the 1890’s.  The home, owned by the W.J. Bonner family for many years, was donated to the Wilcox Historical Society in June 2001.  Initial preservation efforts were begun by the Society.  Unable to secure the needed grants to have the work done, the home was sold to Blake and Betty Field of Camden.  The Field's oversaw a grand restoration of the home which was completed in 2006.  The home is currently availble for rent.
